About Ben Lanzi

Ben Lanzi founded and directed The Freshman 15, Tufts University’s first student-run jazz big band, marking his initial foray into bandleading and big band arranging. Throughout his time as an undergraduate, he honed his skills not only in directing a large ensemble but also in arranging for smaller groups on campus.

Since graduating, Ben has continued to develop his craft by participating in various ensembles, most notably the Meetinghouse Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Bob Rosen, where his original arrangements are regularly rehearsed and performed. Ben primarily derives inspiration from the great works of the popular big band arrangers such as Nelson Riddle as well as the modern jazz voices of Thad Jones and Bob Brookmeyer.
